Cocktails & Macarons: Food Blogger Neha D'Souza Shares Must Try Spring Recipes
Looking for some spring recipe inspiration? Today’s woman dreamer, Neha D’Souza is a food blogger to know. Born in Kenya, she currently resides in the UK, working full time while also running her successful food blog. She shares two recipes, a Rose Pistachio Cocktail and Ras Malai Macarons. Enjoy !
1.Tell us your story. You are a food blogger and adventurer based in London. What inspired your passion for food?
I lived in an extended family when growing up and food and entertainment was part of our life. Every weekend we would have friends and family over to stay and my mum would be busy in the kitchen. My mum also used to bake cakes for the British Army in Kenya (where I was born and lived for 18 years) and that is where I get my baking bug from. My family was also traditional, and I did have to learn how to make the perfect rotlis in my early teens so cooking has always been part of me.
2. One of the best parts of travel is the food to many of us. How do you think food and travel come together? How do you showcase your passion for adventure and travel in your food blog?
A lot of our travel revolves around food. Visiting local markets, eating authentic cuisine like the locals and enjoying the culture is one part of travel we enjoy. I always relate holidays with food .. like our last trip to Goa (pre Covid) - every time we have prawns or crabs it takes us back to the shacks on the beach, the service, the laid-back culture. One place I really want to try is Mexico - tasting traditional dishes how they should be and learning about the different chillies they use.
In my food blog I try and show off a place with its food and drink scene.
3. What are some of your kitchen must-haves?
My little kitchen aid chopper and hand blender. Small, compact, and perfect for the portion sizes I make.
N4. As the platform for women dreamers, what is the next big dream for your platform?
I work full time, and this is a side hustle. It is a place I share what I really love - cooking and shaking cocktails. I would love to collaborate more with brands and share some family recipes with my following. I try and be realistic- what you see if what you get. There is nothing more disappointing that seeing an aesthetic dish and following the recipe only for it to look nothing like the photo. Eg if my piping is not flawless it’s fine and I share that too. I do dream about having a little business baking macarons… I just need to try and make it into a reality one step at a time!
