How to Find a Balance with Your Best Friend: Podcast Creator and Host Sophia Lorena's Top Tips
What is the key to a healthy friendship? “Be intentional and make sure you create the space for that friendship to thrive.” Inspired by her own rough patch, today’s woman dreamer, Sophia Lorena created “The Sh"** Show That is My Twenties” podcast to connect with millennials and women around the world to have a genuine conversation. She shares her top tips to maintaining healthy friendships, long distance friendships, and in finding friends that help you grow. Sophia reminds us, “allow yourself the permission to be messy. To have sh** shows. But, learn from them. Make decisions that don’t make sense on paper. Take a risk.” Enjoy her story below.
1) Tell us your story. What inspired you to create your podcast, The Sh** Show that Is My 20s? What was the need you saw?
I have always been obsessed with personal development and podcasts. In 2020 I was going through my own sh** show moments. I got furloughed for three months, got into a car accident that changed my life, and had to break a rental contract. I wanted to create a space that not only talked about the successes but also the challenges along the way. So I decided why not start a podcast? I have interviewed over 140 people since then and it has been incredible.
2) What is the most exciting part of being in your 20s? What is the most challenging?
The most exciting part of being in your 20s has been exploration. Exploring myself and what it is I want to create. The hardest part has been the challenges of adulting and going towards where I feel called even when it doesn’t make sense.
3) There is a lot of pressure to have it all together nowadays, especially for young women, from career to dating and college plans, and covid has put a hit in all that too. What is your advice to young women who feel this pressure?
My advice is to allow yourself to be a twenty something. Allow yourself the permission to be messy. To have sh** shows. But, learn from them. Enjoy every moment because our twenties are all about us and exploring all out of desires. Make decisions that don’t make sense on paper. Take a risk.
I think a common issue is wanting to please everyone else and forgetting about what it is we really want.
4) You mentioned finding a balance with your best friend. What are your top tips for a healthy friendship?
For friendship I would say not be afraid to explore different friendships and find someone who really aligns with you.
If you are into personal development go to events for personal development and develop friendships there. I would say develop boundaries with yoru friend and pay attention to how you feel around that person.
5) What are your tips for managing friendships when life is busy/you are in different cities/phases of life?
I would say scheduling in time to talk with your friend. Be intentional and make sure you create the space for that friendship to thrive. Make time to visit each other and have a clear channel of communication to make sure your friendship stays alive.
6) As the platform for women dreamers, what is your next big dream?
My next big dream is a beautiful retreat in Greece with a group of powerhouse women ready to manifest a new reality. A epic retreat with amazing speakers and incredible food.
Thank you Sophia for sharing your story with us! We are excited to have you in our global women’s network!
