Parina Daswaney Blog Beauty Boss

1) How did you start Blog Beauty Boss?

I have always been passionate about the beauty industry. Growing up, I would spend hours on YouTube watching makeup tutorials and researching trends in the beauty industry.  What fascinated me was how rapidly the industry was growing and evolving.

Although I was taking coding classes to pass time, I was also quite bored. With a little advice from a few of my mentors, I decided to combine my passion for beauty and background in business to start my own blog that summer: Blog Beauty Boss.

I eventually went to Babson College for my undergrad, a school focused on business and entrepreneurship. My sophomore year summer I spent interning at Wayfair in Boston, and was in Bombay for the last few weeks of the break before school started again. In Bombay, although I was taking coding classes to pass time, I was also quite bored. With a little advice from a few of my mentors, I decided to combine my passion for beauty and background in business to start my own blog that summer: Blog Beauty Boss.

Blog Beauty Boss is a digital platform where I interview global beauty entrepreneurs from around the world and feature their stories, brands, and products. My mission is to share the stories of these inspirational beauty entrepreneurs and build a community where beauty lovers can come to learn something new, find inspiration, and discover these #beautybosses and their successful brands and products. It has been an absolutely amazing journey running Blog Beauty Boss, and my hope is that we continue to grow and build our community.

2) You were a college student when you launched this. What was the support you had from the community, and what is your advice to other students looking to start blogs in college?

Everyone was so supportive, and the best part of launching this in college was connecting with Babson students and alumni who were in the beauty industry as well.

My first piece of advice is to just do it! You have no clue where your blog could lead you and the people you could meet along the way.

My second piece of advice is to pick a clear niche. A clear niche helps target your audience and your content. I have had several fashion and jewelry entrepreneurs reach out to me for a feature on Blog Beauty Boss, and unfortunately I have had to turn them down as my blog is focused solely on beauty entrepreneurs.

Pick a clear niche. A clear niche helps target your audience and your content.

My third piece of advice is to pick a blogging platform that aligns well with your goal. For some people that just might be an Instagram account while for others it might be a website.

My last piece of advice, is don’t give up. You might not see traction initially, but keep working on it and you will eventually see results.

3) Who was the most inspiring beauty entrepreneur you met?

All of them! Each beauty entrepreneur has such a unique story and journey, and it has been incredible to interview and learn from them.

4) Favorite beauty products?

Too many. Currently my favorite skincare products are Saint Jane’s CBD Beauty Luxury Serum, Tatcha’s Deep Cleanser and Dewy Skin Moisturizer.

5) The make-up industry has been seeing many new trends lately: a demand to suit different cultures/diversities, cruelty free products, sustainable products. Is there a brand or influencer in particular that does a good job using their platform to raise awareness to this? How do you use your platform to advocate for this?

Yes so many , and it has been amazing to see these positive shifts in the industry. Beauty Bosses like Megha Asher (founder of Juicy Chemistry), Rubeina Karachiwalla ( founder of Ruby’s Organics), Ericka Rodriguez (founder of Axiology) use their brand and platform to bring awareness to the importance of clean beauty. Beauty Boss Anna Brightman (founder of UpCircle) uses coffee grounds collected from cafes and coffee shops in London and brings them back to life through beauty products, and uses her brand to promote a more sustainable future. It has been incredible to see these beauty bosses create change within the industry, and I am so lucky to have the opportunity to interview and spotlight them, and their mission, and their brand.
